Where is Poetry?

Months ago you used to be so close to me.

We used to hang tight, late at night with

the Mighty Pen

And Weathered Notebook.

Up to no good, consuming old thoughts

About my old hood, juggling metaphors,

Hard rhymes and similes.

Now it’s like we are best friends who

Don’t communicate anymore,

But find the comfort of solitude a bit more soothing.

Where is Poetry?

“children/ when they ask you/ why your mama so funny/ say/ she is a poet/ she don't have no sense.”
- Lucille Sayles Clifton

This is the quote that I always reflect upon on when I start feeling that what I express in my poetry might be a little too "crazy". Expressing ourselves is a gift. We turn it on and turn it off when we want to and no one can ever take that away. Thank you for expressing yourself and sharing your profound written legacy - Lucille. Sayles. Clifton.

Little Boy.

Ya’ mama shouldn’t
Hit you like that,
Little boy.

That…

Wickedly intervenes,
With hopeful dreams…

Gets in between…
Romantic walks,
Kissed with sun beams.

Little boy.
Ya, mama shouldn’t
Hit you like that,

That…

Is love? at its weakest.

"Mental Beauty"
"This track is dedicated to my wife, and all the true goddesses of this earth. Goddess of the earth, know that without you there would be no us regardless of how many ribs the first man did not give. It was a bone marrow experiment and there has to be a goddess to bring new life; respect!!" - Radical9Mind

When my eyes gaze upon your skyline,
I see a lonely mustard colored high rise
In a city NOT anew with cultural advancement,
An overflowing cup of diversity,
And a welcome mat for the
Brown, Black, and Black As Blue.

When my eyes gaze upon your skyline,
I see a lonely mustard colored high rise,
In a city who's long lost twin
Could be Oakland, L.A., or New York City.

Different heat but still,
The same crime ridden skin.

Less opportunity with only
A "handful" of opportunities.

HELP WANTED:
Must be highly skilled and educated
In the areas of oil, farming,
And agriculture. Who you KNOW is preferrable.

When my eyes gaze upon your skyline,
I see a lonely mustard colored high rise
In a city geographically too big for it's britches,
Wearing an antiquated bus system.

Damn public transportation for the rich.
Keep the hood pregnant with buses running daily.

When my eyes gaze upon the skyline and
I see your lonely mustard colored high rise,
I envision the beautiful potential of what
This city could be.

A Black Woman's Pain: A short Poem

While putting on lip gloss at work this morning...

I don't wear lipstick no mo'.

I choose not to beautify myself,
'Cause he don't love me no mo'.

I don't love me no mo'.
