Fearless In Flip Flops
Short and brown
With an unmatched beanstalk demeanor.
Ashy legs, lacking Vaseline Sunscreen
Owned by a skinny lil’ dude with
Worn flip flops on his feet.
Fearlessly he overtakes the pavement
The grass and sand dunes.
He’s Hannibal on his scooter.
Flip flops on his ashy feet
Climbing, running, falling
Running, falling, climbing
Falling, climbing running
The hot climate melts fire.
His forehead bleeds sweat,
But his breathing & yelling
Sing a joyful noise
“Tag you it!”
Flip flops on his ashy feet
Climbing, running, falling
Running, falling, climbing
Falling, climbing running
“Hey mama, I’m over here!”
He waves from the highest peak
Of his Mt. Everest
Made of steel, plastic,
Shaky wooden bridges, and squeaky swings.
He’s climbed it a zillion times.
Flip flops on his tired ashy feet.
Climbing, running, falling
Running, falling, climbing
Falling, climbing running…
I’ll never forget,
The summers that you played
Fearlessly with flip flops
On your ashy little feet.
